What to Watch in the Week Ahead: Home Depot, Walmart Earnings

For the week of August 17, TheStreet highlights key earnings from major retailers, along with important reports to look out for on the economic calendar. On Monday, cosmetics chain Estee Lauder (EL) and clothing company Urban Outfitters (URBN) will release their latest quarterly results. Then, on Tuesday, retailers Dick's Sporting Goods (DKS), Home Depot (HD), and WalMart (WMT)all report. Midweek, more apparel companies like American Eagle Outfitters (AEO), L Brands (LB), and home improvement retailer Lowe's (L) will show us how they did in their latest quarter. Staples (SPLS) and Target (TGT) are also scheduled to release their latest earnings data on Wednesday. Next, global IT company Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) will come out with earnings on Thursday, followed by footwear retailer Foot Locker (FL). Some noteworthy economic reports include the Empire State Manufacturing Survey, the Housing Market Index, Consumer Price Index, Jobless Claims, Existing Home Sales, and finally, the Purchasing Managers' Manufacturing Index, which reveals the health of the manufacturing sector.
