What to Watch Tuesday: Goldman Sachs Earnings, June Housing Starts


On Tuesday, July 19, investors will focus on the U.S. banking sector. Goldman Sachs (GS) releases second quarter earnings before the markets open. Analysts expect the bank to report profit of $3.00 a share on sales of $7.58 billion. During the same quarter a year ago, the company reported earnings of $1.98 a share on sales of $9.07 billion. Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) also reports financial results before the markets open. United Continental Holdings (UAL) releases earnings after the markets close. On the economic calendar, June housing starts are unveiled at 8:30am Eastern. Economists expect housing starts to rise 0.5 percent during the month to an annualized 1.170 million starts. TheStreet's Scott Gamm reports from Wall Street.
